Building the "cardiology of tomorrow" is the goal of the Hospital's Centre of Excellence for Cardiovascular Sciences which intends to invest not only in the clinic, offering citizens up-to-date and efficient specialist care, but above all in research. From a clinical point of view (but also from the point of view of scientific research), the Center follows three guidelines: Diagnostic imaging, which thanks to the most advanced technologies allows to accurately diagnose all cardiovascular diseases. Electrophysiology for the treatment of electrical heart diseases (arrhythmias), which put the patient at risk of sudden death. Hemodynamics that deals with blood flow problems (i.e. coronary heart disease, the first cause of death in Europe). In this regard, work is underway to activate a haemodynamics laboratory in the coming months. In addition, there is a robust organization for the management of patients with heart failure. There are two flagships of this Center: the diagnosis of ischemic heart disease (i.e. coronary heart disease) and the ablation of arrhythmias. In particular, the latter is carried out with electroporation, a particular technique used for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (the most frequent of arrhythmias) which is less traumatic and more tolerated by the patient.
