Prosthetic Knee and Hip Surgery and Traumatology

The Department is focused on the treatment of both degenerative diseases of the major joints (knee, hip and shoulder) and traumatic diseases of the elderly and sportsmen.

The operating unit guarantees the patient in question the attention necessary for an early, clinical and instrumental diagnosis; a rapid treatment of the injury, using the most innovative surgical techniques and an adequate postoperative and rehabilitative treatment, aiming at the FAST TRACK protocol ("short path") and peri-operative pain control in order to reduce both the stress for the patient and the duration of the hospital stay.

Main conditions treated

• Degenerative disorders (Osteoarthritis) and/or deformities of the hip, knee and shoulder
• Failures and/or infections of previous prosthetic knee and hip implants 
• Ligament, meniscal and cartilage injuries of the knee 
• Rotator cuff tendon injuries and shoulder instability pathology 
• Frailty fractures of the elderly (e.g. fractures of the femoral neck, fractures of the wrist, ankle and proximal humerus)
• Major trauma fractures
• Neoformations and Neoplasms of the musculoskeletal system
• Inflammatory and/or degenerative disorders of the upper limb (e.g. carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Dupuytren's disease, De Quervain's disease, rhizoarthrosis)
• Inflammatory and/or degenerative disorders of the lower limb (e.g. hallux valgus, Metatarsalgia, stiff hallux, Ankle instability, Achilles and plantar fascia)

• Prosthetic Knee and Hip Surgery with the use of minimally invasive and robotic techniques and the use of artificial intelligence for the positioning of the knee prosthesis in accordance with the patient's morphotype (Personalized Surgery), mono and bi-compartmental and total prostheses with respect to the anterior cruciate ligament 
• Complex revision surgery of knee and hip replacements and treatment of peri-prosthetic infections
• Shoulder Prosthetic Surgery
• Arthroscopic Surgery and Sports Traumatology of the Shoulder, Knee and Ankle

Teaching activities

The high specialty center provides for the presence and therefore the training of two doctors from the specialty school of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome. In addition, the Medical Team holds disease classes of the musculoskeletal system at nursing degree programs.
