Gynecological Surgery

The Simple Operating Unit of Precision Gynecology aims at the diagnosis and medical-surgical treatment of all the main gynecological pathologies with a particular focus on pelvic floor disorders.

In particular, from a surgical point of view, the OU deals with:

• minimally-invasive (laparoscopic/robotic) and traditional (vaginal-laparotomic) endoscopic treatment of all the main benign gynecological pathologies
• laparoscopic/robotic and vaginal treatment of urogynecological diseases (urogenital and rectal prolapse, urinary incontinence)
• of DS treatment of uterine endometrial and cervical diseases (hysteroscopy, conization of vulvar diseases)

Main conditions treated

• Urogynecological disorders (stress and urgency urinary incontinence; pelvic organ prolapse; 
• Adnexal swellings; 
• Uterine disorders (myomas, septa, polyps, adenomyosis); 
• Endometriosis; 
• Infectious and/or inflammatory diseases of the uterine cervix, salpinge endometrium; Female sterility (in particular if of tubular origin); 
• Menopausal disorders; 
• Diseases of the lower female genital tract; 
• Menstrual disorders; 
• Surgical interventions on the female reproductive system; 
• Menstrual disorders; 
• Ectopic pregnancy; 
• Chronic Pelvic Pain
• Diseases of most interest in the Day Hospital regime: female urinary incontinence, pelvic floor rehabilitation, evaluation of urogenital prolapse, treatment of recurrent cystitis, treatment of interstitial cystitis, treatment of overactive bladder, control of any post-surgical problems (urinary retention)

Outpatient activity

The outpatient activity carried out in the rooms of the 3rd floor wing B includes:

• diagnosis (history, pelvic ultrasound, urodynamic examination/uroflowmetry) and medical therapy of all the main urogynecological pathologies (urinary incontinence, urogenital prolapse, recurrent cystitis, hypertonia, urinary emptying disorders)
• diagnosis (medical history, pelvic ultrasound, colposcopy and hysteroscopy) and outpatient medical and surgical therapy of all the main gynecological pathologies

Scientific research protocols on the diagnosis and medical/surgical treatment of gynecological and urogynecological diseases.

Teaching activities 

Master’s Degree in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery  (currently located at the Fondazione P.U. A. Gemelli IRCCS)
